Dr. Stephen Stahl is the director of Psychopharmacology, Statewide Clinical Operations for Department of State Hospitals in Sacramento, CA, and chairman of the Neuroscience Education Institute and The Arbor Scientia Group in Carlsbad, CA. He is also an adjunct professor of psychiatry at the University of San Diego in La Jolla, CA.
An internationally recognized clinician, researcher, and teacher in psychiatry with subspecialty expertise in psychopharmacology, Dr. Stahl is dedicated to producing and disseminating educational information about diseases and their treatments in psychiatry and neurology, with a special emphasis on multimedia, the Internet, and teaching methodology.
Throughout his career, Dr. Stahl has conducted numerous research projects awarded by the National Institute of Mental Health, the Veterans Administration, and the pharmaceutical industry. His educational research programs are monitoring changes in diagnosing and prescribing behaviors as outcomes from various educational interventions for programs organized by the Neuroscience Education Institute, which he chairs. He also has a clinical practice specializing in psychopharmacologic treatment of resistant cases.
Dr. Stahl has edited 3 books and written more than a dozen others. In addition, he has authored more than 400 articles and chapters and more than 1200 scientific presentations and abstracts.
A fellow of the American College of Neuropsychopharmacology and the International College of Neuropsychopharmacology (of which he is a former vice president), Dr. Stahl is also an associate editor of a prominent peer-reviewed psychiatry journal and an editorial board member of other leading journals.
